BUCHSTABEN MUSEUM

Near bustling Alexanderplatz in central Berlin locates a museum with one of its kind collection. It is also the spontaneous composition of letters that draws attention.

Officially opened in year 2009, but both of the founders have been involved in collecting typefaces and shop signs for 5 years by now. Its aim is to appreciate and admire what has been once used as shop display, navigator or simply a font.

The stories as one of the friendly assistant’s shares are warmhearted. When HAUPBAHNHOF station’s name changed to OSTBAHNHOF Buchstaben happily welcomed HAUP in their space. Once a generous person donated a letter E straight from Inglourious Basterds movie set. More moving story spills with a fish from a Fish and Chip shop display. The kindest and most interactive towards collecting has been so far general public.

The objection of this typography museum is noble. Instead of getting rid of the vivid shabby letters let’s value their function in white cube space.
